Hey friends! It’s June. 🤯I completely skipped May’s email, but in my defense I was beset by calamities and am also starting to suspect I have undiagnosed ADHD. Either way, I’m here now, and it has been a long month and a half! Here are a few things that have happened around here since my last studio update: I spent a lovely April afternoon at my second local market of the year with some other fabulous craftspeople. I missed May’s market because we were out of town, and June’s market was cancelled, so I have until July to decide which new stickers to order and finish a couple more zines. Speaking of zines, I hosted my first local workshop and taught 5 awesome participants how to make a one-page mini zine. It was a great deal of fun, and I’m brainstorming another workshop now, by request. We took a long weekend trip with the family to spend time with my parents and go to our once a decade or so family reunion. Lots of driving, lots of walks, three buzzards, one dead armadillo. Always a good time! My garden is popping. There’s calendula, yarrow, nasturtium, borage, butterfly weed, and dandelion blooming. Sunflowers and zinnias are starting to bud. Tomatoes and peppers are growing. Lettuce is starting to bolt after a strong spring. Garlic is nearly ready to be pulled. It’s gorgeously chaotic. I somehow lost my footing and slid down eight wooden stairs butt first while heading downstairs to exercise one evening a week or so ago. I was fortunate not to break anything, but the bruise and lump on my backside are taking their time healing up. Do not recommend. What I’m Loving Right NowSpeaking of recommendations, I’m experimenting with my newsletter format a bit. In light of All The Terrible Things Happening(TM) I thought it would be fun to share some things with you that are making my life a little more enjoyable right now. This might be something I’m reading, something I’m watching, an app I’m enjoying right now, a product I’m using, or even a tip or activity. This week’s recommendation is a book I’m finishing up today, and it has been a fascinating read. Book and Dagger by Elyse Graham If you’re a fan of spy stories, World War II tales, or just librarians and scholars you might enjoy this one. Some of these heroic folks were just living normal scholarly lives when they got called in the middle of the night to come meet a guy in a parking garage with a flower in his lapel and they were like ‘Yes, I’m in, take me to your secret training facility in the woods’. I’m just saying that if I had been a librarian in the 1930s/40s I would have 1000% joined the secret resistance. Speaking of libraries, if you decide to pick this one up, check your library first or visit bookshop.org to support a local bookshop. That’s all for me this week. Until next time.
