How I'm shaking things up this year

TL;DR: I started a podcast! Scroll to the bottom for links and subscribe on your favorite platform, please!

Hello and welcome to 2025!

How is your year starting? Are you getting into the swing of things already, or easing in slowly?

I told you in my last email that I’d share a little about how I’m doing things differently this year. Well, since then, I’ve had a massive burst of inspiration and creative energy, and my plans for the year have come together in what I think is a pretty cool way.

Now, I’m fairly prone to bursts of creative energy, but they usually show up when I’m covered up and don’t have time to channel it into action. This one fell during a slow season in the business, which let me take full advantage.

I also deactivated my personal Facebook and Instagram accounts on Christmas Eve—a week before I’d planned—and I think the lack of those distractions gave me both the time, mental clarity, and weird frenetic energy to finally take action on some things I’d been thinking about doing for a while.

Anyway, in the last couple of weeks, I’ve:

  • Finally finished creating a beefy marketing toolkit I’d been working on for over a month (more on that in my next email!)
  • Put together a really helpful list of marketing ideas to go with the toolkit (grab yours here)
  • Audited my entire website to make sure my SEO was in good shape, updated calls to action, optimized photos, and just did a lot of needed maintenance. I’m about halfway finished with that.
  • Laid out a 12-week plan for my marketing, along with breaking down a few life goals I’m working towards. This year, I’m not setting yearly goals but instead working towards my long-term vision by setting goals and planning in 12-week chunks. I read The 12-Week Year last December, and the concept blew my easily distracted mind.
  • And last, but maybe the thing I’m most excited about today… I started a podcast!!!

Yep, an actual podcast! You can subscribe to it and everything! (I’m very proud of myself, in case you can’t tell).

The Anti-Hustle Podcast is for entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to grow stable, sustainable businesses—without depending on the algorithm or hustling 24/7 to stay relevant.

We’re going to talk about simple ways to build a business with longevity, how one real relationship can be worth more than any follower count, work-life balance tips for actual people, and I’ll break down the marketing jargon into understandable words and actionable insights you can use to get off the social media marketing hamster wheel and build a stable, sustainable business, with less stress.

This is very much outside my comfort zone, I’ve always said writing is my favorite way to express myself. I like being able to take my time and make sure my point is well made. But also, podcasting feels like more of a connection to you in a way, and that feels good right now. Like we’re just hanging out, chatting about marketing while you cook dinner.

On top of that, it turned out to be a lot of fun to put together. It’s a learning curve, so I expect the sound quality and general awkwardness will improve over time, but I’m excited to start sharing in this format.

The trailer is up now and my first episode will drop in a couple of weeks, so make sure to subscribe now so you don’t miss it! It’s available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Pocket Casts as of today, and I’m working on submitting it to Google Podcasts. If there’s another platform you want to see it on let me know and I’ll figure out how to get it there.

I hope you'll join me!

What's something you're going to start (or stop) doing this year? Hit reply and let me know!
